If you have been keeping up with the news the past weekend, you will know that the dinosaurs are in town. Walking with Dinosaurs - The Live Experience was last staged in Singapore in 2010 and back then, I brought Ash and Ayd to the show - Ale was still an infant - and they absolutely loved it.
Fast forward nine years later, did they still enjoy it? Well in all honesty, they did find some parts a little draggy but I did notice a difference... when they first caught the show in 2010, they were young kids and were very much in awe of the giant dinosaurs stomping around in the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Now, they were keeping an eye out for the animatronics used in the movement of the dinosaurs!
Yes, [SPOILER ALERT] the dinosaurs are NOT real. 😂 The larger dinos such as Stegosaurus and Brachiosaurus are animatronic, while the smaller creatures such as the fierce Utahraptor and baby T-rex are crew members in dino suits.
But try telling that to the young kids in the audience.
The movement of the life-sized dinosaurs are so realistic that they will be able to suspend belief just for that 1.5 hours, seeing them running, roaring, fighting and of course, walking as if dinosaurs were never extinct in the first place.
The show focuses on the three periods of the dinosaurs' reign; the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. A palaeontologist named Huxley adds context to the action by imparting various facts and nuggets of information, adding educational value to the spectacle.
And here's a tip: I would totally recommend getting the front row seats in the middle section if your kids are huge fans of dinosaurs. That's because a real highlight of the show were two life-size Brachiosaurus' leaning over the crowd, delighting the audience.
Despite knowing they were only animatronic dinosaurs, this scene gave me goosbumps.
Oh, and of course, what's a dino show without the Tyrannosaurus rex, which is saved for last. It too makes a stop right in front of the audience, letting out a mighty roar.
And let me just say it was so super realistic that a little girl in the audience broke into tears. Oops. But then, we also see the other type of kids - kids who raise their hands up and roar right back!
So while kids will certainly have an absolute blast at Walking With Dinosaurs – The Live Experience, it is not just for the little ones. The craftsmanship, puppetry and sound effects are excellent.
And with a perfect blend of awesome special effects and interesting scientific details, Walking With Dinosaurs - The Live Experience is a sheer spectacle that will have the kids shrieking in excitement.
