My Little Pony x Kumoya Pop-up Cafe Officially Opens on 27 Sep!

For those who believe in magic, unicorns and flying ponies, this is one themed pop-cafe not to be missed! Because who can say no to those wonderful, magical ponies from My Little Pony. It'll surely bring back those wonderful childhood memories.

Clearly, I'm talking about the wifey here.

Well, Ale was inevitably influenced by her. 😁

Located at Jalan Klapa, the My Little Pony pop-up café is Kumoya's latest collaboration and runs from 27 September 2018 to the 30 December 2018. It is South East Asia's and Singapore's first Kumoya x My Little Pony pop-up café.

And since it's all things My Little Pony, the cafe has been transformed with rainbows, happy colours and of course, the 6 star ponies – Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Twilight Sparkle.

So cute right???

Okay, so being all cutsey and extremely instagrammable is one thing... but just how is the FOOD?

For this collaboration, Kumoya’s kitchen team, together with Shirley Wong (Little Miss Bento), have also curated a special My Little Pony inspired menu for all fans!

Frankly, I have never visited Kumoya prior to this so I have no idea how the food would taste like. Sure, it may look good but how will the food fare in the taste test?

There is only one way to find out.

For our mains, we ordered the Magic Friendship Rainbow Big Breakfast ($24.90) which essentially consisted of toasted house-made rainbow bread, chicken and beef sausages, crispy turkey bacon, chicken ham, grilled tomato, scrambled eggs, hashbrown, fresh garden salad with cute cheese stars. Definitely a big breakfast Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie can be proud of!

The breakfast platter was decent but unspectacular. Everything was what I would expect from a breakfast set so I recommend going for the Twilight Sparkle Soaring Skies Chicken Katsu Burger ($22.90) instead.

Now this was a super delicious burger! Stuffed with a juicy chicken katsu that has a crisp skin and drizzled with house-made teriyaki sauce, the burger is accompanied by fresh garden salad, cute Twilight Sparkle mantou, crunchy curly fries and cute cheese stars.

The chicken katsu was tender and juicy while I have to single out the soft purple buns that sandwich the meat for praise as well. In fact, Ale loved it so much that she finished more than three-quarters of the burger! She would have walloped everything if not for me wanting to try some too. Heh.

I had the Friendship Meets Love Seafood Curry Rice ($28.90) which came in a heart-shaped Beetroots-infused  fluffy Japanese rice and was accompanied by breaded ebi, calamari and scallop, fresh tempura salmon, steamed broccoli, cherry tomatoes, and cute house-made tempura potato cake hearts.

Bonus points to the pink rice and the edible Fluttershy wafer print... which Ale eventually swiped. Luckily for me, I was satisfied with the flavourful Japanese curry.

My Little Pony fans take note! Every order of the Japanese curry rice dish entitles you to a FREE My Little Pony key and coin pouch worth $9.90! There are 4 designs to choose from.

Rounding up the other mains are the Bowl of Rainbow Fun Udon soup with Ebi ($21.90) and Pinkie Pie Playful Waffles with Karaage Chicken ($23.90) - both of which we did not try.

For sides, we had the Truffle Fries ($11.90) which are tossed with parmesan cheese and infused with  premium truffle oil, and served with house-made truffle mayo dip.

The wifey had this previously when she visited the Mr. Men version with her colleagues and she loved it. I popped one into my mouth and let's jsut say I just could not stop.

That was until the Cheese Fish Fingers with Cajun Spice Mix ($12.90) landed on our table.

Visually, they looked rather ordinary but these fish fingers are filled with soft cheese filling!  Cripsy on the outside and oozing with cheesy goodness inside, they are hard to resist.

For drinks, the cafe carries a variety of colourful drinks starting from $9.90. We can't possibly try them all so we had to settle for four of them.

The wifey had the Rarity Yuzu Butterfly Pea Tea with Fresh Orange ($10.90) which is infuse with a hue of beautiful Butterfly Pea blue with a dash of orange.

We also had the Friendship is Magic Mango Milk Frappe with Magic Rainbow Candy Band ($13.90). I think its name is pretty self-explanatory. 🤣

Cotton candy somehow never fails to appeal to kids so it was no surprise that Ale aimed for the Rainbow Dash Fluffy Clouds Bubblegum Soda with Fluffy Cotton Candy ($12.90) immediately.

As for me, the old man in me dictated I had to have a hot cup of coffee and even then, there was no escaping from the cuteness of the ponies.

I have to admit - I felt a tad guilty 'destroying' the artwork when I stirred my Better Together Hot Latte ($9.90). But an old man gotta have his caffeine.

For desserts, there are five to choose from but from this moment on, our tummies were already bursting so we chose the best-looking two.

If there is one dessert at My Little Pony cafe created solely for Instagram, then the Magical Princesses with Magic Potion Galaxy Cake ($21.90) will surely be it.

In the words of the menu, this dessert is "A magical cake powered by friendship, rainbows and love!" Well, all I can say it is one cake that will have everyone at the table snapping photos and taking videos. Because pouring a multi-coloured shinny galaxy glaze over the mango mousse cake,  complete with magical dry ice sounds (and looks) like a match made in Instagram heaven.

The final item we had was the colourful Candylicious Rainbow Fruity Shibuya Toast ($24.90). As you can probably tell from its name, rainbows take centre-stage in this dessert. With a toasted buttery  bread tower, vanilla Hokkaido soft serve, Rainbow Dash cookies, colourful rainbow cookie, fresh berries and fruits, rainbow lollipop, fruity candy drops, AND drizzled with warm dark chocolate sauce, you will definitely find your sugar rush with this dessert.

Surprisingly, for all the sweet stuff on the plate, the best part of the dessert for me was the toast. I loved the buttery bread bits (which are stuffed within the bread tower) as they are toasted to perfection.

After all the eating, you wish to complete your Pony experience by checking out the cafe's mini merchandise corner which sells My Little Pony merchandise.

Of course, there are plushies scattered throughout the cafe for customers to go all trigger-happy with their phone cameras.

From the cafe's decor to its food, I have to say enjoyed my first themed cafe experience even though I am no brony (a male fan of My Little Pony). The cuteness of the cafe was expected but I was pleasantly surprised that food served in a themed cafe can actually taste delicious too!

The My Little Pony cafe is on a limited run basis and it will end on 30 December 2018, so be sure to head down before it gallops away!

4 Educational Off-the-beaten-path Places in Hong Kong to Visit with the Kids

"In every walk with Nature, one receives far more than he seeks."
- John Muir

Hong Komg is probably an extremely familiar (and popular) holiday destination with families in Singapore. There is the shopping, the yummy food, night markets, Ocean Park and of course, Disneyland. But did you know that there is another side to Hong Kong? One that is nature-related and educational for the kids.

During our last visit to the island with friends 2 years ago, we were determined to show the kids a different side of Hong Kong on this trip.

A Geopark formed from volcanoes?

A hiking trail with breathtaking views?

An island to escape from the bustle of city life?

We did them all, and it was one of the best trips of our lives. And that was from the KIDS!

Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark

Personally, this is a must-visit place if you are visiting Hong Kong with the kids... because who knew that Hong Kong was home to volcanoes millions of years ago???

Located in the East and Northeast New Territories, the park includes the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region and the Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region and showcases Hong Kong’s timeless and beautiful landforms.

And when say landforms, I really mean these remarkable natural wonders.

These are hexagonal rock columns which were produced by a series of violent volcanic eruptions in Sai Kung 140 million years ago.

We started our learning journey at the Volcano Discovery Centre located at Sai Kung Waterfront Park. Getting there was straightforward as we just had to take Bus 92 from the MTR Diamond Hill Station.

We then booked our 'East Dam Half Day' Tour from the reception counter at the centre (HK100 for adults & HK95 for kids under 12). There are three time slots per day and you can book them ONLINE if you wish to reserve the tickets beforehand.

The tour took us to High Island, which is deemed to be the easiest location to view the park’s remarkable geological heritage.

As you can see, kids will be able to walk and observe the marvellous landforms along the walking path such as the hexagonal rock columns, faults, distorted rock columns.

And it was simply breathtaking.

Until the kids decided to climb on the rocks, that is.

Don't worry, they were actually less than 1m off the ground. LOL.

Do note that there are no food stalls so do pack along some snacks in case the kiddos are hungry. But these bunch of kids, they were too busy soaking in the views of the reservoir.

There is even a sea cave, which was formed by wave erosion. Nothing like having a Geography lesson right before your eyes!

We ended up spending 3.5 hours and I would totally recommend visit the Geopark. It will be an enriching experience especially for the kids since we do not have such natural landscapes in Singapore.

Wilson Trail (Stage 2)

The Wilson Trail is a 78 km long-distance hiking trail in Hong Kong, offering some of the most spectacular nature views along the way. It consists of 10 sections, or stages, and includes the famed Dragon’s Back (Stage 8) which won TIME magazine's Best Urban Hiking Trail in Asia.

Of all the 10 stages, the 6.6km-long Stage 2 trail is probably the most suitable for kids given that its terrain isn't that daunting. In fact, its difficulty level is labelled as Medium and so with 8 kids in tow, we decided to conquer it.

Our starting point was at Hong Kong Parkview (Take bus 6 or 66 from Exchange Square in Central, Admiralty MTR) and it was great that the trail was well-marked throughout.

Making a steady climb along a spur, we trekked past low shrubland, past old wind-bent pines and came face to face with this.

The view of the quarry was simply too beautiful for words.

There are 2 significant uphill pushes (with lots of steps) throughout the trail so kudos to the kids for pushing themselves to the limit and completing it.

But with views like this, sore legs are worth it.

Seriously, my photo doesn't do justice to the majestic views we enjoyed on the trail.

We completed the trail in about 4 hours... and yes, even Ale (she was 6 years old then) walked every single step of it! The kids were real troopers, that's all I can say!

For all the tough terrain, the views and fresh air were totally worth it. From the Kowloon skyline to the breathtaking old quarry view, it was truly a side of Hong Kong I never thought I would experience. Glad that we conquered it!

Cheung Chau Island

If you prefer less strenuous activities but still wish to get away from the usual bustle of city life, then hop onto a ferry and sail away to Cheung Chau Island for a day trip.

It is a pretty small island, which means its attractions can be covered on foot within a day. There are beaches, temples, short hikes, cafes and restaurants on the island. But its main highlight is during the annual Cheung Chau Bun Festival, a week of colorful celebrations held normally in May.

There are no cars on the island, so cycling - there are bike rental shops near the jetty - is the way to go if you are adverse to walking.

One of the sights we visited was the Yuk Hui Temple, also known as Pak Tai Temple, which was constructed in the 1700s.

The Chinese temple was made to honour Pak Tai, the god of the sea in the Taoist religion. Plenty of Instagrammable spots within the temple, in case you are wondering. Heh.

Or there is always the playground for the kids to expend some energy.

Or Tung Wan Beach, a place where the kids shattered the tranquility of the island. 😂

Located on the opposite side of the island, I read that the beach is usually less crowded than other beaches in Hong Kong. Which it makes for a great place for a swim and sun tan.

If you are there during the summer, that is. We were there in December so the kids were just content to play with the sand.

For me though, I loved walking through the backstreets of the island and admiring the historic architecture of the buildings. We stumbled onto this very old shop among the quaint houses and treated the kids to some ice cream!

Childhood memories are definitely made of these.

The island is also dotted with numerous seafood restaurants so going hungry is never going to happen.

We settled on a particular seafood restaurant for lunch... not because we read rave reviews about its food online but because one of the restaurant aunty was game enough to dab with the kids.

But the food was pretty good too so everything worked out fine in the end.

Lamma Island

We visited Lamma Island during an even earlier trip to Hong Kong, in 2013 when Ale was only 3 years old. Oh my, how time truly flies!

Situated 3km off the south west coast of Hong Kong Island, Lamma Island is Hong Kong's third largest and has a population of around 5,000 of which the vast majority live in its two main villages, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. And the island is home to one relatively easy trail hike that even young kids can tackle.

The Family Trail links the two largest villages, Yung Shue Wan in the north and Sok Kwu Wan in the south and is about 3km long. It takes about 90 minutes to complete. There are slopes to climb along the way but the entire trail is along concrete paths so it makes the walking a tad easier.

You can even stop by Hung Shing Ye Beach along the way, a sandy beach that partially sheltered by trees and as far as I could tell, it is a favourite haunt of foreign tourists. The sand is not the finest around but at least it is clean. There is a beach café overlooking the beach and barbecue area with ample shower and changing rooms.

There are some uphill pushes along the way but again, the views will make up for the aching legs.

We even passed by some caves which were termed as Kamikaze Grottos. During World War II, the occupying Japanese troops were reputed to have hidden speedboats in the caves which would launch a suicidal attack on the Allied Forces warships if they passed by.

And at the end of it all, reward yourselves with a seafood lunch at Sok Kwu Wan!

You can read more about our Lamma Island trek HERE.

So the next time you are in Hong Kong with the kids, do stray away from the usual sights and sounds and visit a different side of the city. You might be surprised how much the kids will love it!

BOO! LEGOLAND Malaysia Halloween Brick-Or-Treat 2018 + GIVEAWAY!

It's that time of the year again, when LEGOLAND Malaysia's Brick-Or-Treat Halloween Party returns in all its spooktacular glory!

Hang on, so does it mean LEGOLAND Malaysia will be overrun with vampires, mummies and ghouls for the month of October?

Well, you can't scare me.

I have THREE kids.

😂

But in all honesty, Halloween at LEGOLAND Malaysia is anything but scary. Because how scary can a Vampire that comes in the form of a LEGO Minifig be???

Throw in plenty of kid-friendly activities like speed building challenges, live shows, activity trail and meet & greets, and I think kids will wish to spend an entire day at the park!

As a rule of thumb, most of the Halloween activities are taking place at LEGO Kingdoms Castle area with one of the attractions being the Castle of Grim.

I think this is probably the 'scariest' of the all the Halloween activities at LEGOLAND Malaysia because of the dim lighting and eerie atmosphere. It is essentially a maze, which we had to navigate from one end to the other... with a few surprises at each turn.

The boys were unfazed the maze but Ale got a little scared towrds the end, all because of him.

But there are no sudden shocks or people jumpong out from nowhere within the maze so it is still pretty kid-friendly. Heh.

For something more fun (and brighter), head to LEGO City at 4pm where a Monsters' Parade will be taking place daily.

Don't let the name fool you... the parade is NOT spooky at all. In fact, it is so fun that park visitors are encouraged to dance along with the kooky Halloween-themed LEGO characters!

Expect to catch a glimpse of many of the kids' fave LEGO characters!

And don't say I didn't warn you... you may just get wet from all those water blasters too!

Of course, what's LEGOLAND without LEGO building challenges, no?

Kids will be able to participate in the Halloween Building Activity where they get to build the ultimate spooky LEGO in order to win the coveted limited-edition Halloween DUPLO Brick.

While all of the above Halloween activities are happening daily throughout the month of October, a huge bonus awaits visitors every FRIDAY and SATURDAY in October.

The hugely popular Brick-or-Treat Night Party returns from 5pm to 8pm - yes, the park closes at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays - with tons of activities that make the 3 hours fly by instantly! Or at least that was how the monkies felt.

At this lively party, kids can put their imagination and innovation to test with a Speed Building Challenge and their problem-solving skills in the Hut Activity Trail.

Just grab the free empty goodie bag and head to the various activity kiosks to complete the challenges. And in return, the kids will receive sweet treats and other prizes to fill up that bag!

Oh, and you may want to stop by the LEGO Kingdoms stage area to participate in the Scream-O-Meter challenge where the loudest scream will win a LEGO set! How do they know that kids can never keep their voices down??? 😜

Better yet if they are dressed in Halloween-themed costumes, because that will mean they can take part in the Best Costume Contest too... more prizes to be won!

And it probably pays to dress your kid in a Halloween costume when visiting LEGOLAND Malaysia because ALL KIDS WHO ARE IN FULL HALLOWEEN COSTUMES ENTER FOR FREE FROM NOW UNTIL 30 OCTOBER 2018!

Not only that, LEGOLAND Malaysia is offering a special admission price of only RM88 (S$29) when you visit the park on Fridays and Saturdays from 5pm to 8pm.

It gets better for Premium Pass Holders, you get to bring a friend into LEGOLAND Malaysia for FREE on Fridays & Saturdays in October!

So yes, families get all the fun not the scares at LEGOLAND Malaysia this October!

(Download the full schedule of activities HERE)

P.S. The monkies had a blast with the SengkangBabies at LEGOLAND Malaysia so hop over to their post to read more about the fun they had too.

To participate, all you have to do is the following:

First Look at the Family-friendly Village Hotel at Sentosa (Opening in Feb 2019)

A brand new family-friendly hotel is set to (soft) open its doors in February 2019 and judging from the media preview I had, I must say kids and parents alike will love the Village Hotel at Sentosa!

Located just behind KidZania Singapore and a stone's throw away from Palawan Beach, Village Hotel at Sentosa is part of the three new hotels under Far East Hospitality that are slated to open by the third quarter of 2019. The other two hotels are The Outpost Hotel (also soft opening in February 2019) and The Barracks Hotel (opening in Q3 2019).

An expansion of the Village brand, Village Hotel at Sentosa is set to be its flagship property offering 606 rooms deliberately priced at the mid-tier range.

From design, ambience to the choice of furnishings, Village Hotel at Sentosa is decorated in sun-washed hues of nature by the sea and my first impression of the hotel was it's extremely gorgeous!

See the darker building in the photo above? That's the second hotel - The Outpost Hotel which only adults can stay in. So if you are ever in need for a quick getaway from the kids, you know which hotel to go to. Heh.

But back to the family-oriented Village Hotel at Sentosa. There are three room types at the hotel: Premier Room (offering sweeping sea views), Deluxe Room and Family Room.

The Deluxe Rooms have a variety of views from Pool Deck, city view of KidZania or the Merlion, to sea views of the Southernmost point of Continent Asia. Deluxe Twin rooms also come with a bathtub.

But if you are having a staycation with the kids, go for the Family Rooms which are essentially two connecting rooms. But the two rooms come with two connecting doors, two vanity areas, and two bathrooms. All rooms has either view of the Pool Deck or city view of Kidzania or Merlion.

Children's amenities like a baby bathtub and cot are available upon request.

I simply love the styling of the room... definitely a very resort feel. Although my only bugbear is the rooms may be a little small especially if you have older kids.

But no matter, because parents can always bring their kids down to the pools at Village Hotel at Sentosa to wreck havoc. Personally, I think that is the main selling point of the hotel... because there are FOUR different pools to choose from!

There is the free-form Adventure Pool.

For younger kids, there is the Children's Play Pool with 2 mini water slides.

But I think my monkies will love the third one - a Lazy River! Yes, right in the middle of the hotel!

The Amazonian Riverine lazy river mimics the Amazonian Rainforest with large luxuriant foliage.

But the most beautiful (read: instagrammable) pool of them all is the Pamukkale Pool, which is inspired by the cascading pools in Turkey.

An infinity pool overlooking the seaside and comes complete with a pool bar, this pool is THE prime spot to chase the sunset while enjoying a cool dip at the same time. Plus, you can see the daily evening fireworks by Wings of Time from the pool too!

For couples looking for a kids-free island getaway, head to The Outpost Hotel. Inspired by Sentosa's Heritage as a colonial military base, the 193 guestrooms are a stylish interpretation of colonial black and white design, with crisp lines and a sharply contrasting palette.

The Outpost Hotel's unique selling point has to be its exclusive rooftop pool which is out of bounds to kids.

And the views from up there are spectacular!

The Deluxe Rooms at the Village Hotel at Sentosa start from $280++ per night while the Family Room starts from $370++ per night.

However, there will be a soft launch discount of minimally 20% for stays between 19 February and 30 June 2019. Booking starts from 7 November 2018 until 30 June 2019. Perfect timing to plan that March or June school holidays staycation!

5 Reasons to let your kids experience a Thematic Outdoor Camp this year-end school holidays

$

Sponsored Post

Back in April this year, our family went for our first camping experience in the outdoors. Not the glamping kind, mind you.

It was the proper 2D1N outdoor camping experience, complete with pitching our own tents, sleeping overnight in the tent with no fan or aircon, having packed meals and enjoying a good dose of fun activities together as a family.

You see how gadgets did not feature a single bit throughout our camping experience? 😂

But I do not want to lie - Camping is a ton of work with kids and of course, there are bound to be some minor discomforts here and there. But the wifey and I love it because we think it is an important and invaluable bonding activity to do together as a family.

It would be far easier just to stay home, where everything is convenient and comfortable, but then my monkies would miss out on the many great lessons to be learned from camping. And I love to take them camping simply because of these 5 reasons:

1.  Precious family bonding time

Sleeping in a tent is one way to get everyone together in close proximity. But more than that, it allows you as a family to do so many activities that possibly you don’t (or won’t) do at home because of the busy lives we lead.

We played ice-breaker games together with other fellow family campers, enjoyed water sport activities, went on a jungle night walk and even cooked our own muah chee using solid fuel!

2. Experiencing nature

Did you read about a UK study where  a sample of school children knew more about Pokémon than they did about wildlife? Oh-emm-gee. Truth is, kids hardly get a chance to be in contact with nature nowadays. So the more time spent outdoors, the more kids may appreciate nature.

During our camp, we went for an intertidal walk along Sembawang Beach, where we got to spot marine creatures and learn the importance of conservation. Nothing like seeing the occasional crab and hermit crabs, and having them in your palms!

3. Appreciating the small things

Let's face it, it is so easy to take things for granted at home but after a long day spent outdoors, there’s nothing quite so wonderful as sitting and enjoying a hot packed meal together.

Oh, and learning to be thankful for the dry comfy mattress and hot showers at home too. Heh.

4. Trying new stuff

Camping isn't all about nature, it's about learning new stuff and trying things out for the first time too. The monkies had the opportunity to learn more about Astronomy through a star-gazing session during our last camp.

I have not really seen my monkies that excited because it was the first time they had ever seen the craters on the moon up close. We were even lucky to be able to view Jupiter through the telescope!

5. Great way to break out of the daily routine

We tend to take things easy after a while, and it may seem a struggle to think of new activities to spend time with the kids come weekend. One can only visit the malls, watch movies or visit the same playgrounds for a finite number of times. So there is nothing quite like a family camping trip to shake things up, trigger new conversations, and create wonderful lifelong memories.

Plus, getting to eat cup noodles for supper isn't exactly a routine in my family. Which probably explained why their faces lit up brighter than any of the stars that we had seen that night while slurping the noodles. LOL.

SO ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR FAMILY'S CAMPING ADVENTURE?

If it is your first time, I suggest signing up for a mass camp where all the logistics will be taken care for you... things like the tent, meals, activities, and even toilet and shower facilities.

The camp my family and I attended was organised by People's Association (PA) Water-Venture (Sembawang) and was held at their new 7,000 sqm campsite at 57 Jalan Mempurong in Sembawang (beside their existing campsite at 60 Jalan Mempuroung). The campsite can accommodate about 200 campers and comes with ample facilities like separate sheltered areas for meals and activities.

The great thing about joining such a camp is all of the activities AND food is taken care of, including the tent, so families get to focus solely on bonding with one another.

AND GREAT NEWS! PA is organising another THREE different Family Thematic outdoors camps during the upcoming year-end school holidays!

Unfortunately, one of them is already full but there are still two more camps for registration:

10 Short Breaks in and near Singapore for Families for that Impromptu Getaway

Advertorial

We all love a vacation every now and then, don't we? For me, I love going away with the family for a short break because it 'forces' me to spend more time with the monkies. At home, we are all too preoccupied with work - even at home during the evenings and weekends, we may be glued to our computers or phones, replying emails or catching up on the news. I'm guilty as charged.

But going away for a break does not necessarily meaning burning a hole in the wallet. An easy 3D2N trip to either Malaysia, Batam or Bintan will do the trick. Or you can even plan a staycation right here in Singapore which will allow the family to enjoy a relaxing break without hitting the road, or skies.

With the year-end school holidays around the corner, it is never too early to start planning. Oh wait, the Deepavali falls on 6 November which is a Tuesday.... which is a great excuse for that 2D1N staycation. And not to fret, I have done the homework for you.

1. The Canopi
(Bintan, Indonesia)

Just a one-hour ferry ride from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and 5 minutes away from the Bintan jetty lies a cluster of uniquely designed safari tent-suites which offer camping at its glamorous best! Glamping (Glamorous Camping) is offered at Canopi via three types of air-conditioned tents: Safari Tent Suites, Lagoon Tent Suites (with views of the Crystal Lagoon) & Jaccuzi Tent Suites (with Lagoon views AND an outdoor Jacuzzi!).

The two-hectare resort is a wonderland for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bountiful bodies of water including a private mangrove river and an absolutely gorgeous crystal lagoon. The latter is the largest crystal lagoon in South East Asia, and is filled with filtered salt water, with NO waves at all - perfect for kids! If the kids get bored with jumping into the crystal clear lagoon, they can relish in the resort's offerings of numerous water activities including cable ski, stand-up paddle, water tricycles and kayak rentals. Or they might fancy scaling an inflatable climbing wall at the Floating Watersport Park! Land activities include zipping around on a two-wheeler Segway, rough-roading around the forest area in the UTV and ATV or for the kids, there are always the oh-so-cute mini ATVs to ride around the resort.

There are a total of 8 air-conditioned containers in all, and each consists of a queen-sized bed, safe, TV, refrigerator and private bathroom. And the beach will be where the kids will be spending most of their time there, thanks to the gorgeous house reef. So what are you waiting for?

Your short getaway or staycation with your family is waiting for you! 😉

The Family Rooms at Concorde Hotel Singapore are Perfect for Staycations + WIN 2D1N Stay!

Staycations are wonderful for the parenting soul, simply because they allow for a quick recharge without the need of excessive packing compared to an overseas trip. Which is great especially for families with young kids.

Better still if the hotel is situated at a central location, in the vicintiy of good food and shopping AND boasts spacious a Family Room like this!

Formerly known as the Le Meridien Hotel, the Concorde Hotel Singapore is located a short stroll away from Dhoby Ghaut and Somerset MRT stations. That is right in the heart of Orchard Road and within walking distance to Centrepoint, Orchard Central, 313 Somerset and Plaza Singapura.

The hotel's facade may look a little jaded but the interior featured a bright and airy atrium lobby with its beautiful bullet-like elevators. They light up the lobby during the night and the view from inside is just spectacular.

Not as spectacular as my monkies' smiles. But I'm biased like that.

Well, the monkies certainly have every reason to be cheerful... because just how spacious is our hotel room???

The newly refurbished Family Room comes with brand new carpets, improved lightings, curtains, wallpapers and more accessible bedside USB power points including other kid-friendly amenities.

Of course, we all know how Wi-Fi is (almost) as important as air, no? Not only is the Wi-Fi free and allows for unlimited connectivity, it is available for multiple devices, suiting families. In addition, Concorde Hotel Singapore offers the fantastic benefit of the complimentary Handy smartphone service, complete with GPS, 3G, interactive maps and a whole host of other apps. Really handy for guests to bring it out of their rooms and explore Singapore!

The bathroom is pretty spacious, and having both a standing shower and bathtub is always welcome.

But the real draw for families booking the Family Room are these hidden gems.

What are they?

TADAH! It's a set of bunk beds!

Each family room consists of a king-sized bed AND twin bunk beds which can be folded up to create more space in the bedroom when not in use.

For some reason, the monkies seem to love them! 😉

Personally, I love how spacious the entire room is - very important especially when doing a staycation with kids!

Our Family Room is located on the third floor, which came with a outdoor area for chilling.

Great for indulging in a meal of roti prata. Yes, there's a stall beisde the hotel that sells bryani and prata. Yums!

Not to worry about the extra calories though because the hotel has recently completed uplifting works at its swimming pool, children’s playground and kids dipping pool.

Which the monkies needed no invitation to start some splashing fun!

For dinner, we headed down to Spices Cafe to check out the buffet spread.

In celebration of the hotel's 10th anniversary, Concorde Hotel Singapore is currently having the Harvest of the Sea Buffet Dinner which comes with a spread of fresh succulent seafood with unlimited servings of 4 crab dishes - salted egg, black pepper, Singapore’s signature chilli crab and its daily special - that are made to order.

Additionally, every diner can choose from along with a complimentary serving of Baked Half Lobster or Braised Baby Abalone with Broccoli and Mushroom.

And what is a seafood buffet without fresh sashimi and plump oysters?

There were also local favourites like a live cooking station for Laksa and various hot food items like prawns and BBQ meat to satisfy every craving.

The dessert bar usually gets the most attention from the monkies and it's not surprising since it is packed with a plethora of English pastries, cakes and Nonya traditional desserts. Oh, and there's durian pengat too!

The buffet dinner starts from $55++ per adult and $24++ per child but you pay only $42++ per adult (Mon-Thurs) and $45++ per adult (Fri-Sun, Eve of PH and PH) when you book online through the hotel HERE!

All in, I have to say our staycation at Concorde Hotel Singapore surprised me somewhat. I've passed by the hotel countless times and the exterior did not catch my eye. However, that all changed when I stepped inside for the first time. I love the atrium lobby, and love the Family Room even more.

It's a great location to have a short staycation with the family... I know that because the wifey was out shopping with Ale along Orchard Road while the boys and I just chilled in the room!

And that, is what a staycation is all about.

Kuhl Home's Modular Bed System for Kids is a hit with the monkies!

Product Review

With Ale growing up ever so quickly day by day, there comes a time when she inevitably needs her own space in the home - as well as a proper place for her to mug for her exams.

And it came in the form of Lifetime Kidsrooms!

A reputable and renowned kids’ furniture brand from Denmark, Lifetime Kidsrooms is distributed exclusively by Kuhl Home in Singapore with a focus on kids' bed as its main product line.

To find out more about the brand - and for Ale to pick out her dream bed - we visited Kuhl Home's showroom... which frankly looked more like a playground for kids.

And I mean that in an absolutely good way because the moment the monkies stepped into the showroom, they were off exploring the various kids' furniture!

The kids' beds are handcrafted out of solid pine wood sourced from sustainable forests and are handcrafted by top craftsmen in the region. Yes, your order is handcrafted in Denmark upon order... that's how seriously they take their job!

Each kids' bed attains the highest safety standards in its construction, and uses non-toxic chemicals in its production process. With a warranty of 5 years, parents can be assured that it is a good investment with a brand that strongly believes in quality and guided by their motto that all children should be able to play, explore and have fun without worrying.

And the fun in picking out the ideal bed for your child begins by getting to try out the many designs at the showroom like this ultra cool Hangout Bed in the above photo! By the way, all of the beds come in three possible colours – whitewash, greywash and white, as shown on the roof of the Hangout Bed.

Oh, and Kuhl Home's staff strongly encourages all kids to test out their furniture beds because they are the ones who will be sleeping in them, no? And there are TONS OF DESIGNS for both boys and girls, ranging from a Treehouse-themed to a Fairy-themed. Some beds even make the business of getting out of bed so much fun.

No prizes for guessing which bed was Ale's fave. Unfortunately, we have limited space at home so having a Bed with a Slide isn't practical for us.

We were definitely going to get a bunk bed since space is an important factor. Not only that, I had other factors to take into consideration when choosing a bunk bed for Ale too: Safety, Design and Longevity.

Safety because for obvious reasons.

Design because I mean, I have to look at the bed every day too.

Longevity because it will be a waste of money if the child outgrows the bed once older so it will definitely be great if the bed is able to last beyond the teenage years.

Well, that last factor is what makes Lifetime Kidsrooms furniture super. The ingenuity of the brand lies in a modular bed system that you can customise however you wish. All of its beds can eventually be converted into a single bed, taking one's child through the ages, and allows one the flexibility to meet the design needs of the child's room.

After some consideration, we settled on the STUDY KIDS BED combo which consisted of a semi-high kids bed and a cabinet with turning desk.

The kids furniture are handcrafted upon order in Denmark. So this means there is a 12 weeks wait for the furniture to arrive…but it also means that we get exactly what we want.

Soon enough, the delivery day finally arrived!

Thanks to the capable staff from Kuhl Home, the furniture was set up in no time.

All done, and ready to be tested by the Diva herself.

I love how the Semi-High Bed provides additional space as it allows Ale to sleep on top, and leaves space for storage or play at the bottom. One can even pace a cushy bean bag below and it'll be a cosy reading corner for the kids!

For us though, we had the Cabinet which came complete with a Turning Desk.

And this, my dear readers, is the ultimate space saving kid furniture that I never knew I needed. Just take a look at how it transforms into a study desk for Ale in a few seconds!

We just had to simply slide open the desk when the kids need it, and slide it back afterwards to create more space. And it was rather timely for Ayd who used it as his study area during the PSLE period.

Remember I mentioned safety as one of the factors in my decision-making process? Parents will be glad to know that Lifetime Kidsrooms products are made from sustainable pine that grew slowly over time, ensuring quality and sturdiness. Varnishes used are environmentally friendly, and non-toxic paints are applied to ensure every child’s safety is put first at all times.

In fact, all Lifetime products are certified safe for use in accordance with stringent European standards (TUV cerfified) and exceed legal standards for safety and quality.

But the best thing I love about our new kid furniture is the bed is a lifelong investment. All of Lifetime Kidsrooms' beds can be converted into a single bed, taking a child through the ages. Thanks to its solid materials, the beds are also sturdy and stable after any form of conversion.

Which only leave me with one question:

How come it doesn't come in an adult size??? 😂

Sponsored Post

There is no other job in the world like being a parent.

It can be immensely fun and nothing swells me with more pride than seeing my kids reach a milestone in every stage of their lives. On the other side of the coin, it can also be extremely messy and brutal.

Because let's not kid - pun fully intended - ourselves here: Parenthood is the most complicated thing we have ever done in our lives because there is no handbook to follow. Raising our children will forever be the hardest endeavour we will ever undertake in our lives. It IS hard work.

But if you are a parent, you already know that, don’t you?

And it sure doesn't help that social media has played a huge part in shaping the way we parent our kids. The thing about social media nowadays is we often see picture perfect moments other parents post of their kids - together with feel-good captions about being a parent, and idyllic photos of their lives, their meals, their homes, their vacations and their fitness regime. Sometimes insta-filtered to the max.

Well, there isn't exactly anything wrong in doing that especially in this day and age where being visually appealing helps. A LOT. But there is also nothing wrong in showcasing the truth behind parenthood.

Behind every smiling baby, there are less than 4 hours of sleep, tons of diaper changing, and never-ending messes to clean up.

Behind every posing school-going child, there are the endless homework, revision and trying one's best to solve those Math problem sums.

Behind every teenager in a family photo, there are the constant eye-rolling, emotional outbursts and thoughts of running away. And that's just the parents. 😂

Truth is, we all have our 'no-filter parenting'moments - moments that happen frequently on a daily basis but we don't usually put them up on social media because you know, they are not exactly 'insta-worthy'.

And I have just the perfect example. See the photo below?

This was taken on Langkawi island last year and it constitutes what you will probably acknowledge as a great family portrait to share on social media.

But this is what you do not get to see.

Hey, where did Ayd go??? He somehow managed to lost his footing just when the camera shutter snapped and this was the 6th unsuccessful attempt in taking a smiley family portrait… hence, the sian-ness, or frustration, written all over my face. Oops.

But this photo probably sums up what parenting is really like – moments of irritation that happen on a daily basis. Just because we parents do not post such ‘unglam’ shots on our social media accounts doesn’t mean they do not happen.

Or maybe a moment of spontaneous fun when the monkies decided to pile on top of one another?

I would have joined in but I didn’t think they could support my weight. 🤣

Again, this photo shows another side of parenting – moments of spontaneity rather than kids all lined up in a single file and asked to smile & pose for the camera. And for every shot of fun in this photo, there are plenty of not-so-fun moments in our parenting journey as well.

Like having to study for exams.

At the end of the day, parenting isn’t as easy as it looks. But we still continue to plod on, for the sake of our children – IG-worthy photo or not. Because no matter how hard it gets, we parents will never stop trying to give them the best... in all its unfiltered parenting glory.

Which is why OCBC gets it and wants to reward all you long-suffering 😜 new parents out there.

You will have definitely heard of the Child Development Account (CDA) where the Government matches your savings ($6,000 for first and second child, $12,000 for third and fourth child and $18,000 for fifth and subsequent child) over 12 years.

Today, Singaporean newborns will also receive the CDA First Step, an initial balance of $3,000 upfront, in the child’s CDA, without parents having to contribute anything first! Definitely a great ‘starter kit’ for all dads and mums. Do note, however, that the amount will count towards the existing caps, meaning that first-time parents who receive the grant and then save $3,000 in their child’s CDA will hit the $6,000 co-savings ceiling.

The money in my monkies' CDA account definitely came in useful. Besides using the funds to pay for their kindergarten school fees, the money also came in useful at hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and even optical shops!

And if you really want to maximise your CDA benefits, open a CDA with OCBC, because they have been providing both parent and child with a lot more than just interest earned for 10 years and counting!

Happy 8th Birthday, Ale! (but please stay cuddly & kissy for me)

Dear Ale,

Today you turn 8. EIGHT years old. How is it even possible?

They always said that time would fly by. They were right.

But I still cannot believe how fast the past eight years flew by and as I write this, all of the memories of you being just a tiny baby flash before my eyes... moments that I wish to recover but can’t.

And as you get older, you are developing your independent, very strong character. And even though I admit you drive me crazy sometimes, I would not have it any other way. I could not be more proud of the young woman that you are becoming.

So on your 8th birthday, here are 8 things I love about you.

You have a big heart. You are so full of kindness and generosity that it is a joy to see. It makes me so proud that you are an amazing big 'sister' to your cousins. Sharing toys with them and going along with their wishes are your natural inclinations... even dancing silly in front of them just to make their day.

You are so thoughtful. You like to do things for others that know will make them happy: draw pictures, sing songs, make presents. Even allowing me to 'disturb' you. LOL.

You are a great friend. You have the ability to make others feel love and accepted. You step in when your friends are bickering and try to mediate.

You are a bookworm. Sure, you are a big YouTube addict too, and would watch the videos if we let you, but you also love reading so very much. I have lost track of the number of times seeing you engrossed in a book. Perhaps being close to your er-ge, Ayd, has influenced you.

Which brings me to my next point.

You are an amazing little sister to your two brothers. You love them to bits, look up to them and even help them to complete stuff around the house!

You are tough and soft rolled into one. You never hesitate roughing it outdoors but yet scream at the sight of a cockroach. It's just too cute that you are all things tough and all things soft and lovely all at the same time.

You are strong-willed. How is it this is something I love? Because oh geez, you are stubborn, my word, you are stubborn and yes, it drives me nuts. But yet, I hope that you always use this for good and use it to always stand up for what is right and good.

You will always be my baby. You might be 8 years old now, and turn 9 next year but in my heart, in my mind, in my memories you will always be my baby. Stay as cuddly and kissy as you are now, never grow out of my hugs and kisses as I will never want to stop giving them to you.

I am so blessed and proud to call you my daughter.

Now go tell the world you are EIGHT and let's celebrate!

Loads of love,

Daddy

The Disney Tsum Tsum army has landed at Gardens by the Bay's Flower Dome!

“Poinsettia Wishes featuring Disney Tsum Tsum” Floral Display officially opens to the public today and my word, everything inside is cuteness overload.

That's right, pixie dust truly fills the air as all the stackable Disney Tsum Tsum brings a touch of magic to the Christmas floral display at Gardens by the Bay.
In this special "Poinsettia Wishes Featuring Disney Tsum Tsum" floral display, Olaf feels right at home amidst a snowy landscape of poinsettias, Christmas berries and holly, while Dumbo prepares to take flight with a sled full of presents.

Time to get those cameras and start snapping away!

As you can tell, the main 'action' takes place at the Flower Field where this towering Tsum Tsum stack makes for a good photo point.

Actually, anywhere around the area is Intagram heaven.

See what I mean? I think the 2 ladies at my home will go absolutely bonkers.

Throughout the Flower Field, there are photo 'booths' which are great for that quick selfie too.

And do you know what's the magical part? Familiar Disney songs fill the air within the dome as one saunters though the Tsum Tsum exhibits. Feels a bit like being in Disneyland.

The "Poinsettia Wishes Featuring Disney Tsum Tsum" floral display lasts all the way until 6 Jan 2019, so you know where to celebrate the festive season this year-end holidays!

I've said it before and I'll say it again - one of the most important things that Parenthood has taught me is the best place for a kid to learn is outside.

Because if you have been reading my blog long enough, you will know that I am a strong advocate for experiential learning - the process of learning through experience - for kids. Which explains why I am always looking for places and activities in Singapore to keep my monkies occupied whenever the weekends roll along.

In fact, that was actually how this blog evolved into its present state of sharing fun activities with all parents. Back when the monkies were younger, I couldn't exactly stay cooped up with them at home for long so better that they go crazy outdoors than bounce off the walls at home with all their pent-up energy! 😂

And for a child, it is always more fun to be outdoors because being outside is vital to a kid’s growth, and his/her emotional and mental development. Kids learn better through these experiences which cannot be replicated in the classroom.

Unfortunately for today's kids, the competition for attention with television, electronic devices and video games is tremendous. From playing on iPads to watching YouTube videos, kids tend to be spending more and more time indoors, leading to a more sedentary lifestyle.

On the other hand, playing outdoors is a form of exercise that promotes well-being and wholesome physical development. Outdoor play is important because kids really gain a sense of mastery and competency of skills from outdoor play.

Which is why I have set up Masak Masak with two other partners.

Masak Masak presents the great outdoors as its classroom and imagination through drama as its curriculum. We strive to gift your children with the best being outdoors has to offer - quality and purposeful playtime that promotes well-being and wholesome physical development.

And with that, we have designed an inaugural workshop that will be taking place on 18 November 2018, Sunday!

MASAK MASAK PLAYTIME! is a never-been-done-before OUTDOOR programme, specially designed with productive and constructive parent and child bonding in mind.

Yes... true to our beliefs, the workshop is held outdoors - at the scenic Labrador Nature Reserve.

Recommended for kids aged from 5 to 12, the workshop will be taking place from 9.30am to 12.30pm, with the bulk of the activites held at Berlayer Shade at Labrador Nature Reserve.

But rest assured there will also be plenty of exploring around the park together with your child! Oh yes, the workshop is for parent and child in case you did not know... which is why I had said it is great for parent-child bonding, away from any distractions!

So what will the workshop entail? There are 3 parts to it:

PART 1: We begin your morning with Drama games that encourage face to face and real time interaction with other Parent-Child pairs. You and your child will be asked to design a flag depicting the values that represented a your family. You will be grouped with other pairs and together, your individual family flag will be joined with theirs to create a Battle Flag which all of you will need to win at the end of Part 2.

PART 2: In your Battle Flag Family, you and your child will be presented with 4 different restrictions, one at each of our 4 check-points within the park. You will be required to navigate to your designated stations within the physical and verbal limitations. Once you have arrived, you will be asked to complete a task of scoring points at a local game. Upon completion of all 4 stations, your group will be presented with your Battle Flag and your mission will be complete.

PART 3: With use of Drama techniques you have learnt in Part 1, each Battle Family will devise a skit that highlights 2 challenges parent and child has faced in the course of the Battle of the Flag. Each skit will be presented in a given style of Theatre and watched by the rest of the participating families. With the help of our trained facilitators, all participants will then be asked for solutions to those challenges that have been presented.

And who will be the facilitators?

Well, I will be there but I will be only playing a supporting role.

The Chief Facilitator is Zachary Mosalle, who is a faimiliar face on television. Your kids will probably recognise him too as he had appeared on many kids' programmes on OKTO.

Zachary is a certified Speech and Drama Consultant. He holds a CertLAM in Speech and Drama, a Diploma in English Language and Literature and a BSc.(Hons) in Information Technology.

He uses modern technology coupled with drama pedagogy to enhance the creative learning process through speech and drama for students from Primary to Secondary level.

He is also a registered MOE trainer/instructor. For two decades, Mr Zachary has been a familiar face on TV and stage. He has acted, voiced and taught Oral Communication, Public Speaking and Speech and Drama with several local theatre companies such as Act 3 Theatrics, The Necessary Stage, Imaginarts, ITheatre and Voiceworks International just to name a few. He believes that every student is different in his and her own right and he strives to help his students discover and overcome their fears and shortcomings by building their confidence not only in themselves but in working with others as well.

Through the workshop, imagination is being ignited and encouraged through use of drama techniques such as role-playing with the help of Storybook and Forum Theatre. Local children’s games will be included to the fun as well. Kids will be taught games parents had enjoyed while growing-up and get to experience and appreciate the benefits of being outdoors.

At the end of the session, both parent and child will have gained a deeper insight that would enrich their bond based on these three attributes; Trust, Communication and Empathy. Kids will learn how to express their wants and needs in a way that conveys their best intentions to loved ones. Parents will gain invaluable insight into the minds of their children at the same time.

The fee for the workshop is $120 but for early birds, it is $99 currently! It is for one parent-child pair and includes a Goodie Bag worth $30. Psst, the goodie bag also includes a copy of my book, 'Got Kids, Go Where?' so you have 550 more ideas for activities with your kids after the workshop!

The Great Moscow Circus is one nail-biting ride + Win 4 tickets to this Amazing show!

Did you know that in Russia, cicus is viewed as an art form that is culturally on par with ballet and opera? The Russians truly take the business of circus seriously and it really shows in the jaw-dropping performances in The Great Moscow Circus show that is currently happening at the Mighty Big Top beside Marina Bay Sands.

Because if you are looking for some good quality entertainment for the whole family, The Great Moscow Circus is definitely something not to be missed. And I must admit, I had underestimated how good it would be just as I took my seat in the circus ring.

The ring was definitely smaller than I envisioned it to be but that is actually a good thing because the entire seating area was kept pretty snug and cosy... which meant you get a good view of the performances no matter where you sit.

That's the Globe of Death, one of my fave acts by the way and I promise I'll get to that in a bit.

There are eleven acts, all of which inspire nothing but awe. The opening act – a lively sequence of  high flying trampoline acrobatics was enough to keep me and the monkies glued to our seats.

Actually, each and every act was exceptional in its own way. I could hear myself saying “WOW” so many times, looking at Ash, Ayd and Ale and asking ourselves," How on earth did they do that???"

Yup, like this Rubber Man... who make squeezing into that XXXXS pants look like a piece of cake.

Frankly, the show is brilliant from start to finish and it does not even have to involve death-defying acts for all of us to break into thunderous applause. For every flip and twirl in that somersault routine, I can only guess the immense hard work, perspiration and accidents that went behind the scenes to make everything seem so easy.

Even 'flying' high above the circus ring without any safety harness was enough elicit gasps from all of us watching from below.

Oh, and there is an Australian dude who even rocked out on an electric guitar whilst balancing on ALL OF THESE!

Of course, it is not all about tense performances. Let me just say the clowning acts will have everyone roaring with laughter. Kids will be particularly tickled every time the clowns appear - especially with plenty of audience participation.

But my faves were reserved for two adrenaline-inducing acts. And one of them involved this double wheel of death performance.

Four performers rotate the giant wheels just by running - much like hamsters - but without any safety wires. The spinning of the wheel gets more and more high paced and there are genuine screams of fright from the audience as the performers jump up high into the air with the wheel spinning before landing back onto the wheel. I lost count the number of times I had retrieved my pounding heart from my mouth.

The other fave act - which was also the monkies' - was this Globe of Death which somewhat resembled the Death Star.

This act began with just two motorbikes entering the globe and riding all around it. And thenm they increased it to three, then four and believe it or not…FIVE.

FIVE MOTORCYCLES SPINNING IN THE GLOBE!

It was truly nail biting. And I kid you not when Ash asked me to feel his palms and they were wet with perspiration! 😱

There are not many more words that I think can give The Great Moscow Circus real justice. Each act had me gasping with amazement, with the entire show being a fabulous spectacle of what the human body can do.

Simply put, you just have to see it for yourself!

P.S. In case you are wondering, The Great Moscow Circus Singapore contains no animal acts.

FIRST LOOK: HeadRock VR, a NEW Virtual Reality Indoor Theme Park, opens with 11 attractions!

Media Invite

If you are afraid of going on roller-coasters at theme parks (because it's too adrenaline pumping), GOOD NEWS - you can now experience all the thrills and spills via Virtual Reality (VR)!

HeadRock VR is the newest theme park to open at Resorts World Sentosa and it is Singapore’s first and largest virtual reality theme park. Yes, all the rides are through virutal reality where visitors are transported to imaginative worlds with just a simple headset.

Boasting different themes and 11 extreme attractions that cater to ages six and up, the digital attraction theme park fuses entertainment and state-of-the-art technology and promises an extreme experience that is larger-than-life!

Ticket prices are based on mixing and matching the number of attractions according to the colour zones and preferred package:

Big 7 ($65): Choose any 2 from Blue zone, 3 from Orange zone and 2 from Green Zone
Big 5 ($50): Choose any 2 from Blue zone, 2 from Orange zone and 1 from Green Zone
Big 3 ($35): Choose any 1 from Blue zone, 1 from Orange zone and 1 from Green Zone

What rides can one expect?

BLUE ZONE

Storm Blizzard

HeadRock VR is debuting the world's first Storm Blizzard ride in Singapore, where riders get to brave the blizzard and ride through snow-covered roads on a dog sled.

Jump Jump

Get strapped onto a swing and jump your way through the jungle like Tarzan.

Flying Dive

Ok, so this one elicited the most screams from the visitors when I was there... simply because you get to experience a sudden drop into a volcano with overflowing magma.

Beat Saber

For all Star Wars fans, get to wield one saber in each hand and slash to the rhytmn of the music.

ORANGE ZONE

Extreme Train

Not a fan of real roller-coaster rides? Then this one is for you. No sudden drops or cockcrew turns, just a dash of virtual relaity on a mine cart. Look out for the Singapore landmarks as you traverse through the skies!

Jungle Rafting

Arguably one of the more popular rides at the theme park, be sure to hang on tight for an ultimate jungle rafting experience through rapid descents. No need to worry about the raft overturning though - that's the beuaty of VR.

Horror Room

Much like the Extreme Train ride, but only with a horror element.
(The ride was not in service during my visit)

Skyscraper

Head up a skyscraper and overcome high altitudes to battle enemy robots... and defuse a ticking bomb!

GREEN ZONE

VR Room

Choose from three VR games: Western Bar shooter, Arrow battle or a Zombie slasher. Be warned, the final game can get a little too real! Heh.

Zombie Busters

Now this isn't scary at all because the zombies look kind of cute. LOL. But you will want to exterminate them anyway - shooting (and reloading) from a VR gun can't get cooler than this.

Robin Hood

This isn't exactly VR because you get to shoot actual arrows from a bow. But it's kind of fun all the same.

All in all, pretty entertaining stuff... especially if you are looking to bring the kids to somewhere fun on a rainy or super hot day since everything is indoors and air-conditioned. It's amazing how far VR technology has come because everything is quite realistic. I know, because there were more than a handful of screams from other visitors when I was there.

Like this one in the video. 😂

Attraction tickets can be purchased through SISTIC and on-site. It is located at Resorts World Sentosa, beside Trickeye Museum and officially opens on 17 November 2018.

If you go between 17 November and 16 December 2018, there is an early bird discount of 15%!

SuperPark Singapore: Finally, an Indoor Adventure Playground that parents can play together with their kids!

SuperPark is exactly what its name suggests - an amazing, purpose-built, HUGE indoor activity park with tons of activities for EVERYONE - no matter how young or old you are. It is a playground for all and quite frankly, the monkies LOVED it!

First launched in Finland in 2012, SuperPark was started by a Dad who found that he couldn't enjoy the activities at the indoor playgrounds with his daughter as they are usually built for kids. With SuperPark, it is meant for the entire family – a place where toddlers, kids, teens and adults can all have fun in one park, whether you are scaling walls, jumping on trampolines or smashing balls at one another!

And with over 13 SuperParks in Finland, it has finally come to Singapore at Suntec City!

My first impressions? It is like a gigantic adventure playground, game arena, and sports park all rolled into one for just one single ticket price. And it is awesome!

And HUGE!

Spread over two floors, SuperPark Singapore's first level is where all the adrenaline-pumping activities are located while the second level is geared towards younger kids and toddlers. Its activities can be divided into 3 main areas:

ADVENTURE AREA

Flying Fox
(Level 1)

Whizz away on a zipline and get to smash into a wall of foam at the very end!

Kids' Freestyle Area
(Level 1)

If you have young kids and brought them to trampoline parks, you will know the fear of bigger kids colliding into them is very real. At SuperPark Singapore, there is a dedicated area specially for younger kids and it comes complete with with trampolines, foam pit and climbing walls!

Pedal Car Track
(Level 2)

Racing around the indoor park using leg power? I think it's something kids cannot get enough of. And best of all, the pedal cars comes in both kid and adult sizes!

Sliding Mountains
(Level 2)

Great for young kids, because who can say no to slides???

Tube Slide
(Level 1)

For older kids, there is the more thrilling Tube Slide. Drag your personal tube-tyre up the hill and slide all the way back down! And repeat.

Kids' Adventure City
(Level 1)

Yes, SuperPark Singapore is so big that it even has its own indoor playground! However, when we were there, it was still undergoing final touches so we didn't get to experience it.

Kids' Gym
(Level 2)

Consisting of a mini obstacle course, climbing wall and ball pit, this is heaven for kids aged six and below.

Ninja Course
(Level 1)

Older kids can channel their Ninja Warrior at this obstacle course and clear it in the shortest time possible. I think this was one of Ale's faves!

GAME ARENA

If you have tweens and teens in the family, this is the area that will get them excited. Both Ash and Ayd collectively let out a 'Woah' when they first set their sight on all the activities available to them.

Superball
(Level 2)

Now this is entertaining chaos at its best! Split into 2 teams and try to shoot as many goals before the time is up. I guess this is the only time where kids can legitimately whack their parents with balls without getting scolded. 😂

Robokeeper
(Level 1)

Try to score bragging rights over this robot goalkeeper!

Baseball
(Level 1)

Step into the batting cage to practice your swing. And trust me when I say it is definitely not easy as it looks!

Superhoop
(Level 1)

An exciting digital basketball game that can be played by up to 3 people at the same time. Shoot as many hoops as you can before the timer runs out.

SuperPinball
(Level 1)

Pinball game where you use your own feet and normal size footballs to score as many points within a time limit.

SuperBowling
(Level 2)

It is like the bowling ball game at the arcade, but on a larger scale and with basketballs.Terribly addictive!

Street Basketball
(Level 1)

Just a pure, simple basketball match with friends.

FREESTYLE HALL

Trampoline Platform
(Level 1)

All the trampolines one can jump... sure beats going to just a trampoline park, no?

Augmented Climbing Wall
(Level 1)

This is NOT your average indoor rock-climbing wall! This wall has integrated digital aspects with different kinds of games to increase the challenge.

Clip 'N' Climb Walls
(Level 1)

No need to wait for your kids to drive you up the wall, do it youself at these colourful walls! LOL. Do note that proper footwear has to be worn for this activity.

Or there is always the good ol' rock climbing walls.

Skate and Scoot World
(Level 1)

SuperPark's famous skate and scoot park, complete with awesome ramps, rails, and kickers... where anything goes. Hone your skills with a skateboard or scooter but remember, covered shoes have to be worn here.

Gymnastic Area
(Level 1)

For those aspiring gymnastswho cannot get enough of cartwheels, tumbles and flips!

And if you wish to take a breather from all the activities, there are always the foosball and ice hockey tables to take that family rivalry up a notch. Heh.

Or dabble in a little bit of parkour... minus the risks, digital style.

Ticket prices start from $22 for access to the park on weekdays (exlcuding public holidays and school holidays) from 6pm to 9pm. A full-day ticket costs $35 on weekdays.

As for weekends, public holidays and school holidays, there are 3 time slots to choose from or you can buy the full-day access ticket as well.

Some points to note if you are plannign a trip down with the kids:

- There is NO price difference for adults and children but children below 3 years old get free admission.
- SuperPark grip socks are always required while you are in the park. Ticket price excludes socks; SGD$3 per pair.
- Do book your tickets online in advance to ensure you enter at your preferred time slot.
- Lockers are available, free of charge.
- There are toilets located within the premise.
- There are no food and bevarage sold within the park.

Can I just say all of us in the family LOVE SuperPark Singapore? I think part of the draw is the fact there is something for every interest of every age. Whether you are a toddler, kid, teen, young adult or a parent, there is sure to be an activity that you will enjoy.

The best part is whatever activity you choose, parent and child can do it together... unlike other indoor playgrounds.

I love how SuperPark offers an opportunity for BOTH kids and parents to get active together, and we don't have to be at the mercy of Singapore's fickle weather! The only hard part? Having to drag away the kids when the time is up!
